Harvey opened up the lesson in a warm and welcoming way and I felt incredibly focused and ready to learn with his overviews of the music and techniques he commonly uses. Harvey went at a steady pace, going through his mindset with choosing and manipulating sounds to fit the vision he was going for. It was really refreshing to see so much constructive criticism in comparison to the unwavering positive feedback that I and many new producers get from our friends. “It really is tough to get proper feedback from producers nowadays, as 9/10 times it's "this is good but i would change x and y, good work!" Harvey took the time to go through every part of my track and write his in depth thoughts, what could be improved/added, and shared techniques to pull off these improvements effectively. He also gave me tips on arrangement/flow that would create a more interesting experience for the listener. I had also asked a couple questions about his come up and marketing advice for a producer with no fan base. “The ease of access of learning materials for producers today, with YouTube and artist releasing master classes and workshops, is amazing - but it lends itself to a bit of a Black Hole of content. There is a reason that Medical Doctors still attend a university to learn their craft, as opposed to just buying college text books and studying on their own. When learning a skill that is as involved and diverse as the world of medicine - you need another experienced human to guide you through your weak points and to help emphasise your strengths. Music production is very similar. You can spend hundreds or even thousands of hours absorbing knowledge about production, but eventually you'll need an experienced mentor to help guide you through that last little chunk of the learning curve.

Harvey provides this mentorship extremely well. He is very a very knowledgeable musician and producer, and his experience can help anyone achieve a better sound. His feedback and teaching isn't based on subjective creative elements (e.g. you shouldn't use this piano because it sounds lame) but instead focuses on objective sonic elements (e.g. these two sounds are conflicting and figuring out a way to carve them both space will make for a cleaner sound). There is a big difference between those two things.

Having a teacher who can appreciate your creative style, but also provide education on how your own unique sound can be improved is quite invaluable!”
